Resumo

An investigation was carried out into the morphology and rate of development of ‘zone lines’ (pseudosclerotial plates, PSP) by Armillaria mellea and Stereum hirsutum . Both test fungi showed similar patterns in the formation of the plates characterized by stages of (1) hyphal proliferation, (2) hyphal swelling and aggregation, and (3) pigmentation. Rates of formation differed markedly with A. mellea reaching the stage of aggregation within 36 h of the initial exposure stimulus compared to 70 h by S. hirsutum .
