ResumoThe "kouros" is an Archaic sculptural type of a standing youth, usually nude. Only about 35 examples, collected here, exist in which the figure is represented with drapery. All of these appear in Ionic environments with the single exception of a statue found in Syracuse. The origin of that sculpture has been the focus of some debate. It is argued here that the work was produced locally, but under considerable Ionic influence.
