ResumoIn 1976 elections for U.S. House of Representatives, organized labor contributed over $5 million and an average of 69 percent of its vote to Democratic candidates. ' Of 292 Democrats who were elected, 251 of them had received endorsement of AFL-CIO's Committee on Political Education (COPE).2 Consequently, this support of elected congressional candidates, coupled with election of a Democratic president who also owed much to labor,3 created a situation similar to that of 89th Congress, labeled by AFL-CIO's Executive Council as the most progressive Congress in history.4
