Resumo

Often discussed and occasionally discounted as a programmatic song which establishes Walther's concept of lofty (and base) love, indeed the song which has more than any other established h6hiu and nideriu minne as basic concepts of Minnesang, Aller werdekeit ein fiiegerinne is not only one of the most prominent, but also one of the most imperfectly understood set of strophes Walther ever composed. In recent decades a large number of detailed and perceptive articles have been devoted to Aller werdekeit, but their authors have almost invariably come to it with dubious preconceptions. I contend, in contrast to received opinion, that these strophes neither provide a program nor, in fact, constitute a song, but are rather a part of a larger one.
