ResumoThe Marxist leaders had their own point of view on this question. Trotsky once said that Tolstoy accepted only two classes of people landowner This perhaps was true during earliest period of his life, but not after 1880's, when Tolstoy's interest became primarily centered on working class its well-being. Trotsky admitted that the interest of Tolstoy was not only 'esthetic', but was based on deep psychological understanding love. In his memoirs, Gorky writes how he once came to see Lenin found him reading War Peace. What an artist! Lenin exclaimed, and you know amazing thing about Tolstoy is that he is a real moujik, he has a peasant's voice he thinks like a peasant. And this great man, Gorky added, shows his capacity to feel, to think, to speak, to work like a peasant to contemplate world ruling classes with eyes of a peasant. Plekhanov, in his article, Marx Tolstoy, wrote that the suffering of peasants interested Tolstoy far less than those who made them suffer people of his own class landowners.
