Resumo

An osprey, Pandion haliaetus carolinensis (Gmelin) was collected in May, 1952 and shipped to the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests Research Station at Maple, Ontario where it was frozen. The bird was examined September 26, 1952 and found to harbor five species of helminths, including several specimens of a cestode described here as Paradilepis rugovaginosus n. sp. From a comparison of the several fragments present it is believed that at least four tapeworms were harbored by the host, although only two scoleces were recovered. The worms were fixed in F.A.A. without flattening. Two whole mounts, one stained with Mayer's Carmalum, the other with Mayer's Hemalum, were made. Frontal, transverse, and sagittal serial sections were cut at 10 microns and stained in haematoxylin and eosin, or in haematoxylin, eosin, and azure II. All measurements were made from stained and mounted worms except the maximum measurements of the scolex which were made from a fixed worm in wet mount.
