ResumoWell-delimited glomerular cysts have been observed in the kidneys of the following species of fishes: Protopterus æthiopicus, Lepidosiren paradoxa, Myoxocephalus scorpius, Myoxocephalus octodecimspinosus, Ophichthys imberbis, Crenilabrus pavo, Corvina nigra; and in the horned toad, Phrynosoma cornutum. It is concluded that these cysts are probably formed in two ways: (1) on the basis of a degenerative process in the glomerular tuft; (2) as the result of a malformation of the glomerulus in embryological development.
