ResumoUrban infrastructure management is becoming more and more important for cities around the world. To optimize a system means to maximize its net benefits to society. The benefits are measured by the performance and quality of service that the system provides. One of the common indicators used to quantify the frequency of pipe failures for a particular system is the annual number of breaks per hundred kilometers of pipe. This paper indicates the increase of the pipe failure frequency with time, although the pipe material resistance also had a big importance. As a conclusion, the number of incidents in urban water supply systems is likely to be continuously increasing in the future as systems grow older.
