Resumo

For this reader, charting a path through Carlos Fuentes's The Old Gringo has become rather an exercise in learning to trace a multiplicity of trails that dip and weave throughout the book and that reach not so much toward the book's conclusion as toward an ever-widening consideration of Mexican revolutionary history. Simultaneously, Fuentes has written a novel that is a treatise on how we are to read the intersecting histories of Mexico and the United States.
