ResumoAbstract Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca’s Naufragios y Comentarios con Dos Cartas y Relación de Hernando de Ribera is unique because it is the first document about contact between Europeans and Native Americans in Texas, and it is the only document, for this area, in which the rules of the game were reversed and the colonizer became Other to those he came to colonize. This 1540s narrative is rich in cultural material about the native groups encountered and particularly the roles of Native American women.
