Resumo

The principal aim of this study was to determine whether seed set in Telopea speciosissima R.Br. (Proteaceae) (waratah), a shrub with large, conspicuous inflorescences, is limited by inadequate pollination. To overcome the major methodological shortcoming mentioned above, whole-plant samples were used, and the impact of increased fruiting in one year on flowering in the following year for the hand-pollinated plants was also investigated. Having found that pollination was limiting fruit-set in the sample under study, our secondary aim was to examine the importance of number of inflorescences per plant determining fruit-set among unmanipulated plants
