Resumoaim of this paper is to present a brief reflection on youth in contemporary society and how higher education can help minimize the socio-educational marginalization of young black people. From the research indexes regarding the insertion of the black youth in the job market and the latest figures on the Violence Map 2011: The Brazilian Youth, we made a cutout exposing the experience of Zumbi dos Palmares College – a college where the Brazilian black student is protagonist. text approaches the challenges of school and non-school education in a society that denies being racist, but needs that public policies are implemented in order to warrant the education of the black youth, which are directly related to affirmative actions and the fixing of a history that has seen the marginalization and genocide of the black population in Brazil.
