Resumo

Since snowboarding has recently been accepted at many skiing grounds and the number of snowboarders is increasing rapidly, various snowboards have been developed and are being sold. Although it is important to improve the quality of the snowboard for avoiding serious accidents, studies on it have been few and far between. First, in the present study, a numerical approach is proposed for analyzing a dynamic bending deformation of the snowboard on snow under vertical loads or a combination of vertical loads and bending moments due to the performance of snowboarders. Next, numerical results are compared with experimental results obtained by using a urethane sheet instead of snow. From the comparison, it follows that one can accurately estimate the dynamic bending deformation using the proposed approach. Furthermore, it is shown that one can estimate the reacting force acting on the snowboard through snow by using the approach.
