ResumoLaboratorians have used various techniques to concentrate cells in an increasing number and variety of cytologic specimens. These techniques include cytospins, filters, and cell blocks. We describe a technique in which cells are effectively concentrated from effusion and fine-needle aspirate samples by sedimenting the cell pellet into a small collodion bag. Laboratorians can obtain a sufficient amount of undiluted specimen by placing these bags in a routine histology cassette.
