ResumoBacteriophage T7 has developed an efficient and rapid mechanism for the replication of its chromosome. Using this relatively simple organism, it is possible to elucidate the molecular and enzymatic mechanisms responsible for the replication of a linear, duplex DNA molecule (Richardson et al. 1979; Tamanoi et al. 1980b; Tabor et al. 1981). Furthermore, many steps in the replication of the T7 DNA molecule resemble events known to occur during the replication of the larger, more complex bacterial and eukaryotic chromosomes.
