Resumo

FOUR hundred years ago, in April 1521, died Fernao de Magalhaes, more familiarly known to Englishmen as Ferdinand Magellan, perhaps the greatest of the world's great navigators, the first to venture across the vast extent of the Pacific Ocean, and by so doing to virtually, if not actually, achieve the first circumnavigation of the globe. The man himself was worthy of the achievement, which was but the due reward of indomitable courage and determination, coupled with the highest seamanship and other fine qualities not always found united in the successful man of action.
