Resumo

The youthful choristers who occupy the side reliefs on Luca della Robbia's cantoria are examined, and a proposal is made that models were selected from contemporary adolescent confratelli who engaged in hymn-making and psalmody. Popular religious practices and developments in church music occurring in Florence during the 1430's are shown to contribute directly to the imagery employed by Luca for a project of special importance to the cathedral.
