Resumo

Tidal inlets associated with small coastal lagoons are often unstable and can close naturally.For ecological reasons, these inlets are often artificially opened, and allowed to evolve naturally until their closure.This paper describes the simulation of the evolution of the Santo André tidal inlet after its opening, through the application of a process-based morphodynamic model (MORSYS2D), supported by extensive field surveys.The application of a process-based morphodynamic model to the specific case of an inlet artificial breaching and natural closure was particularly challenging, and new processes had to be introduced in the model.In particular, hydraulic jumps associated with extremely strong currents which occur in the first hours after the inlet opening are taken into account by applying a correction to the drag coefficient.This correction is based on
