ResumoO ^18^ /O ^16^ analyses of molluscan shells from fossil littoral deposits of Pleistocene age in Morocco, Portugal, and Italy, now occurring at altitudes ranging from + 1 m to + 150 m, have yielded isotopic values that are typical of interglacial ages, with two exceptions. Similar analysis of molluscan shells from fossil littoral deposits now occurring at about \--80 to \--100 m off the southern coast of France have yielded isotopic values that are typical of glacial ages. The glacial and interglacial character of these deposits, previously recognized on paleontological grounds, is thus confirmed.
