ResumoA 66-year-old man was seen at the hospital because of a tumor of the dorsal region. The tumor was present beneath the scapula in the left dorsal region, and was elastic hard and well movable but ill-defined. CT revealed a flat tumor with isodensity. Aspiration biopsy cytology resulted in class 1 and a needle biopsy took connective tissue and a small quantity of elastic fibers. With a diagnosis of benign tumor of the soft parts, the tumor was removed. The tumor did not adhered to skin and got under the scapula or became apparent according to the up-and-down movements of the upper limbs. It was ill-defined and adhered to the surrounding muscles and periosteum of the rib. The excised material was 7.5×3.3×4.4cm in size without capsule. The section was yellowish white in color. Pathological diagnosis was made as elastic fibroma. It is thought that the elastic fibroma is reactive hyperplasia of connective tissue due to repeated frictions. It is relatively rare and specific tumor commonly seen in Okinawa and Finland. The tumor is often misdiagnosed as malignancy because it is ill-defined. However, we know more precisely characteristics of the tumor, we are able to diagnose it more easily. Some bibliographical comments are also presented here.
