Resumo

The cognitive complexity of raters was investigated as a possible moderating variable of the psychometric quality of ratings. Schneier's (1977) cognitive compatability theory was tested in three studies. Rating accuracy, halo error, and acceptability of rating formats did not differ between cognitively complex and simple raters. No support was found for cognitive compatability theory.
