Resumo

A new hydrostatic seafloor sediment corer which can explore the in situ hydrostatic energy to collect the sediment in percussion way, analogue to the pile-driving,is proposed. Its built-in hydraulic drive unit converts seawater's hydrostatic energy to the kinetic energy of the corer's hammer which falls to impact the sampling tube into the sediment repeatedly,so the energy conversion efficiency is a key factor to the corer performance.Based on the analysis above,a computer model of the drive unit is constructed by using AMEsim software and the model is validated by comparing the simulation data with experimental data.In the valid model the water pump is substituted by a perfect pressure source to simulate the seawater and reveal the significant factors that influence the efficiency of the corer in the seawater. The results indicate that the energy conversion efficiency of the system can be improved significantly by optimizing the physical dimensions of drive unit and adjusting the weight of the hammer according to the coring depth.
