ResumoThe present article contemplates a cultural analysis of the architecture of the school building of Colegio Piracicabano, founded in the city of Piracicaba (SP) in 1881, and the multiple implications such pedagogical undertaking involved. Based on the theoretical-methodological conceptions of cultural history, we understand the pedagogical practice experienced at the Piracicabano as the fruit of cultural relationships established by subjects at the time. The analyses are oriented by the work Evangelizar e civilizar: cartas de Martha Watts, 1881-1908 (Mesquita, 2001) and by the journal Gazeta de Piracicaba. An examination of the sources highlights how the school's architecture imposed school norms and conducts, acting as part of its educational program and being a kind of landmark of the educational conceptions started in it.
