ResumoIn our phylogenetic analysis of the subfamily Pitcairnioideae, three monophyletic groups of genera became evident. These are formally treated as tribes, namely, Brocchinieae (Broc- chinia); Pitcairnieae (Ayensua, Connellia, Cottendorfia, Fosterella, Navia, Pepinia, Pitcairnia, and Steyer- bromelia); Puyeae (Abromeitiella, Brewcaria, Deuterocohnia, Dyckia, Encholirium, Hechtia, and Puya). Pe- pinia, most recently considered a subgenus of Pitcairnia, is recognized as a genus in Pitcairnieae. The monograph on Pitcairnioideae (Smith and Downs 1974) consolidated most of L. B. Smith's previous studies that had appeared in a series
