ResumoAbstract In spite of Paul Piccone's dire warnings as to the fate befalling unsolicited material for Telos, the briefest of notes might provide less, rather than more of a laugh. My concern is with Russell Jacoby's demolition of the latest attempt to authenticate critical theory—and not only Critical Theory—for the British scene, an enterprise that employs suet-pudding mediations that fall absurdly short of the demands of the material. Jacoby and Piccone seem to be taking it in turns to run amok through the foibles of English Marxism, a feat that they perform with consummate ease and excellence. In terms of the respective writers reviewed, the editor of New Left Review can at least be regarded as seriously interested in tracing a plurality of trajectories through a variety of thinkers.
