The first accomplishment in battle of which Ahmose boasts took place during the fighting (ch?) in the vicinity of Avaris. He states, made a capture ('h'-n hsf-n-i, for V-n hfc-n-i): I brought a hand, and it was reported to the royal herald. One gave me gold of (Urk. IV 3, 12-15). In the next round of fighting (CA/) n the same place, he states, again made a capture (h;fc) there: I brought a hand. One gave me gold of valor once again (m whm-c, literally, as a repetition of the act) (Urk. IV 3, 17-4, 2). The only other occasion of his taking hands in a condition of battle occurred under Amenophis I: His saw my valor: I brought two hands. They were taken to his majesty (Urk. IV 7, 9-11). Here, the statement that the king personally viewed the deed and his presence explains why the hands were taken directly to him rather than to the royal herald occupies the place which would otherwise apparently have been filled by a statement containing the verb A//7^/c. There is no mention of a reward immediately following, which is presumably not an omission in the text, for the text specifies seven occasions of such reward (Urk. IV 2, 2), and seven are in fact described. This means that the reward mentioned in Urk.
