Twenty-nine persons died and 1,139 residences were destroyed. The Khulm Gorge highway was closed by an estimated 12,000 m3 of rockslides. An aftershock was felt about ten (10) hours later. Damage in the areas closer to the gorge was extensive. Many of the mud-brick-dome roofs collapsed. The felt area was between 200–300 km2 which suggests that the earthquake more likely occurred at a very shallow depth in the crust. This content is PDF only. Please click on the PDF icon to access.
