Resumo

Engorged Deinocerites cancer were collected from crab holes at the edge of the salt marsh near Vero Beach, Florida and their sources of host blood were determined by capillary precipitin tests. About 3/4 of the females had fed on avian hosts, nearly all wading birds, and 1/4 on mammals, primarily rabbits. Slightly over 1% contained blood from poikilotherms. These results are similar to those recently reported for this same species in Panama, and both suggest that Deinocerites have a feeding versatility that is compatible with the transmission cycle of certain arboviruses.
