Resumo

Knowledge of water quality for irrigation in a region in which you want to install more than 50 thousand ha irrigated will be of great importance to maintaining the sustainability of productive soils. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of groundwater for irrigation in the region of Baixo Jaguaribe - Ceará. Collected samples of groundwater from eight sampling points in the counties of Aracati, Itaiçaba, Jaguaruana and Limoeiro do Norte. Were collected during the period April to August 2002 and analyzed at the Laboratory of Soil, Water for Irrigation and Plant Tissue of CENTEC – Limoeiro do Norte, Ceará. The parameters analyzed were: calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), Sodium (Na+), Potassium (K+), Chloride (Cl-), carbonates (CO-3), Bicarbonate (HCO-3), sulphate (SO4-2) and electrical conductivity ( CEa). We used the software Qualigraf to classify the samples by the Piper diagram. The results showed that 87.5% of ions cations were dominated water with sodium and 47.5% of anions fit water bicarbonate, and chloride, but according to the overall predominant water with sodium bicarbonate 47.5%.
