Religion and Society in Latin America

The article represents the fourth chapter of the PhD thesis, under the title, Igreja Mundial do Poder de Deus – Rupturas e Continuidades no Campo Religioso Neopentecostal (World Church of God’s Power - Ruptures and Continuities in the neo-Pentecostal Field) , discussing the most relevant aspects which, at the same time, approach and keep at a distance the referred church from the traditional Pentecostal movement, from where it came from. It is our comprehension that the identity of such movement occurs by a rupture-continuity process , due to the fact that there is no complete rupture in human society, but a continuity reworked process, based on previous concepts, in answer to the concrete and historical challenges operating on a social group in a specific period of time.
