Resumo

The taxonomic status of Brycinus kingsleyae and B. opisthotaenia, two morphologically similar African characids, was studied. Specimens (n = 180) originating from the known geographical distribution range were examined morphometrically. Principal component analysis was performed on 17 metric and four meristic characters. A combination of some of these characters and the color pattern clearly separate the putative species.
