ResumoIN IlTS SELECTIVE annotated bibliography of work in economics of education, published in 1964, MIarkl Blaug listed 420 items (excluding other bibliog,raphies). Education in the earlier history of economic thiought was deliberately omitted, so that this is in fact a list of 20th century items, published in English. Although a few selections i.n relatively conventional educational finanee are inieluded, the bulk of the eitations deal with relations between education and income distribution, effects of educatioln on productivity, the spread of education and economic growth, schooling versus on-the-job training as human-resource formation, conieepts and measures of huinan capital, social benefit-cost anialysis, and educational policy-and also (less fully indexed) the literature on manpower requirements forecastinlg and malipower planning alonlg with that (still very limited) on the economics of educational planning. Of these 420 items, I found on a rough count that 14 had appeared before 1940, 6 appeared in the decade of the 1940's, and 19 in the years 1950 through 1954. The renmaining 3S1 items, constituting 91 per cent of the total, appeared withiin the decade 1955-64 (or were in press in 1964) ; 283 of these 381 items appeared in 1960 or later.
