I. Despite frequent droughts, the Sanki plain has remained fertile rice fields, through careful irrigation by means of artficial ponds or springs called “Desui”, but from the dry weather that lasted froin November 1938 to August 1939, the southern part of Japan suffered enormous damage, and the plain was one most affected districts, the crop that being only 56 percent of normal. The author divides the drought district in The Sanuki plain, the following manner: A=S1/S×100 B=S2/S×100 C=S3/S×100 (S1 =uncultivated area, S2=damaged area, S3=non damaged area, S=entire cultivated area) II. With the aid of these figuers, the plain can be divided into foilwing nine regions: (A) Drought regions-(1) Bisan-Seto island region, (2) Northern part of the Takamatu plain, (3) Ayakita region, and (4) Ryônan region. (B) Undamaged regions-(1) Southern part of the Takamatu plain, (2) Marugame plain, (3) Northwestern part of the Takamatu plain, (4) Southeastern part of the Takamatu plain, and (5) the Ookawa-gun region.
