ResumoStudies were made on the rate of solution of particulate solids fully developed in the agitator.Analysis of principal velocity of agitated liquid v relative to the particle leads to the introduction of the term e, the power consumption in the unit mass of agitated liquid. It is one of the factors affceting the velocity v and can be correlated as follows:(1)In the above equation δ is the diameter of a particle. With the aid of above assumption, the equation of the rate of solution can be expressed asfollows:(2)The experimental evidence of the above equation was rocured by using the vessels of diameters 17, and 27.4 cm. respectively. Particulate sugar was used as suspended material in the agitator. Each run was made with the different types of impeller, paddle, vaned disk and flat-blade turbine.By plotting the values Sh/Sc 1/2 against Re, the experimental results are illustrated in Fig. 3. Each data obtained with the different operating conditions could be expressed by the single formulla (2) when the particulate solids are fully developed in thelagitator.
