Resumo

The purpose of this lesson is to improve understanding of the abdominal mesenteric diseases, best achieved by dividing them into two groups, i.e., those that involve the peritoneal surface and are, therefore, spread via ascitic fluid and those that arise within the fibrofatty envelope and either are primary in the mesentery or result from spread from the bowel or the retroperitoneum. Peritoneal carcinomatosis (arising from carcinoma of the ovary) and peritoneal mesothelioma are examples of the first group, and the lymphomas are a typical example of the second group.
