ResumoTwo species of box turtles occur in western Mexico: Terrapene ornata and Terrapene nelsoni. Terrapene ornata luteola is regarded as a possibly relict form occurring in Chihuahua and Sonora. Two subspecies of Terrapene nelsoni occur in Mexico: T. n. nelsoni and T. n. klauberi. T. n. nelsoni is known only from the type locality at Pedro Pablo, Nayarit.
