ResumoR(r)ose Sélavy may be the most provocative art production assigned to Marcel Duchamp, himself among the most challenging artists of the modern and postmodern periods. She tells us much about Duchamp's work, psychology, and collaborations, as well as his, and wider, cultural attitudes toward gender, sexual orientation, and ethnicity. The so-called alter ego of Duchamp, Sélavy was designated by him as “born” in New York in 1920, and she served him for the rest of his life as the repository of his most daring works, acts, and ideas.
