ResumoThis article aims at reflecting upon the translation of the aria “Un dì felice, eterea”, written by Francesco Maria Piave (1810-1876), located within Giuseppe Verdi’s (1813-1901) opera La Traviata (1853). Therefore, we have traced, at first, a brief panorama contextualizing the Opera genre as a musical and textual one, besides tackling with some of the specific nuances inherent to such sort of productions, which influence directly our activity as translators. At a second moment, we set forth our translation proposals of this aria into Portuguese and English alongside our observations on the translation process, on the challenges it entails, and on our pursuit for solutions that take the chosen translation project into consideration. Our purpose, thus, has been to discuss our translation trajectory and the aspects we have decided to privilege therein, with the scaffold provided by the theorists whose works focus on issues involving literature and poetic translation.
