ResumoEn ARLY in I734 the first contingent of Salzburger peasants, refugee from religious persecution, arrived in Georgia, transported there by the benefaction of the Trustees of that colony. Johann Martii Bolzius (1703-1765) accompanied them to Ebenezer, Georgia, as pastor He served them in that capacity until his death in 1765, and during a larg( part of the twenty-year Trusteeship (1732-I752) was in effect their tern poral leader as well. Toward the close of the Trusteeship, Bolzius was presented with long and detailed questions on conditions in the colony by interested person, in Europe whom he did not choose to identify. The initial portion of hi, answers, to Herr von N. of Augsburg, was published a year ago.' The present selection was written in response to questions asked by an unknown benefactor from Halle.2
