ResumoThe first comprehensive accounts of the mammals of Nova Scotia were by J. Bernard Gilpin whose findings were published in the period 1867 to 1874. Indeed, up until now no one else seems to have attempted to list all of the different species inhabiting the Province and scarcely anything was published after Gilpin's time until the nineties of the last century when Outram Bangs interested himself in the fauna of eastern Canada. Then, he named, as new, five kinds of mammals from Nova Scotia.
