Aedes sticticus (Meigen) is a univoltine mosquito that requires the usual sequence of summer, winter, and spring temperatures for conditioning of eggs. Eggs so conditioned hatch under the stimulus of a decreasing gradient of oxygen. Some eggs hatched at high levels, but most hatched at levels of 10% or below. Levels of 1% and 0% oxyen inhibited hatching in about half of the eggs. Microbial activity in different dilutions of nutrient broth hatched eggs at all temperatures between 8° and 25°C; 15°C provided conditions for maximum hatching with contaminated media. Dilution as great as 1:10000 was most satisfactory at high temperatures and that of 1:1000 was most effective at lower temperatures.
