Resumo

The growing concern about the rational use of natural resources and energy efficiency in building has highlighted the importance of building performance.Recently, a new Brazilian residential building performance standard has been published, standard NBR 15.575:2013.It evaluates several aspects of buildings, among them their thermal performance. In this regard, the standard requires that, at first, a simplified analysis be made, in a prescriptive way.If the results are not satisfactory, the building should be evaluated by the computer simulation method. In this article, the thermal performance of a case study has been judged according to standard NBR 15.575.The results obtained are that the building does not fulfill the requirements of the simplified analysis. When trying to use the computer simulation method it was found that the standard lacks data regarding summer and winter typical days for cities in the bioclimatic zone 2, making it impossible to continue the evaluation.Even considering data from a city in another bioclimatic zone the standard still lacks data on the date, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction and sky type.Hence, the process's outcome becomes dependent on the operator's interpretation. It is recommended that the standard be revised to address these problems. This study has as its objective the realization of an exploratory study. It is part of a master's degree dissertation research about a case study on a social interest housing located in Formiga, Minas Gerais, ZB2.Its contribution is a critical analysis of the current Brazilian thermal performance standard NBR 15.575.
