ResumoIn this paper, the possibility of citizen's participation in widening community street was discussed by comparing two case studies of Omachi-dori in Izuhara Town and Teishaba-sen in Maebaru City. The merits found include the following: Citizen's participation enables adding local sense of place in street design, open discussion among local citizens encourages faster agreement than formal individual hearing process by local officials, and citizen's participation in street design promotes broader community planning.
