ResumoThe irrigated agriculture to achieve success we need a proper management in order to meet the water requirements of crops, the blade being applied correctly and the time of irrigation. In view of this concern the present work aims to show the correlation between the method-FAO PenmanMonteith and Hargreaves & Samani, Ivanov, Camargo and Jensen-Haise the estimation of reference evapotranspiration for the city of Sobral, Ceará, as an alternative management for small farmers in the region. Data were collected from an automatic station located in Sobral in the northern state of Ceará, in geographical coordinates of 3 ° 41'03 "south latitude, 40 ° 20'24" west longitude and Greenwich altitude of approximately 70 m. As classification of Köppen, the climate of the region is the type Aw ', hot, with rains in summer and maximum in autumn. Were quantified values of daily maximum temperatures (Tmáx), middle (Tmed) and minimum (Tmin); relative humidity: maximum (URmáx), middle (URméd) and minimum (URmín.); solar radiation (Rs); rainfall and wind speed in 2m (Vv). Data were obtained from 01 January 2006 to 28 December 2006. The methods that use only the temperature data showed itself as an alternative estimate of ETo and irrigation management for family farming in the city of Sobral, Ceará. With the use of this method of controlling the application of ETo for irrigation levels one can reduce the waste of water in the region.
