Resumo

Culex (Barraudius) pusillus Macg. (Diptera: Culicidae) A mosquito, indigenous to North Africa, was found breeding abundantly in three suburban localities near Alexandria, where larvae were found throughout the year but were most numerous from August to early October. Waters in the breeding places were distinctly alkaline, with pH from 7.4 to 7.8, and with salinities ranging from 2.1 to 4.9. Data are given on development under laboratory conditions for the egg, larva, pupa, and adults. Two lethal morphological anomalies are described; these appear in late fourth instar larvae and may result from lethal mutations.
