ResumoEDITOR'S NOTE:-Dr. Cailliet has prepared a movie version of The Afternoon of a Faun. Although no footnote accompanies Dr. Cailliet's Synoptic Book, each and every word of same is backed up by a solid and well-documented inquiry. In 1936, on occasion of Twenty-fifth Anniversary of Symbolistic Movement in France, Dr. Cailliet published a work entitled Symbolisme et Ames primitives, which Fortunat Strowski in Le Quotidien called the most important contribution on symbolism made during these celebrations. In this book Dr. Cailliet suggested that Mallarm6's tremendous ambition in art could only be realized to-day with resources of motion, and sound. In matter of color, he studied problem for months with California painter Millard Sheets, who had designed several important sets for motion pictures. Then Dr. Cailliet had four long interviews with Leopold Stokowski in studios of Hollywood on musical aspect of this project. He carried on his inquiry in San Francisco where he consulted French conductor Pierre Monteux, one of outstanding promoters of Ballet Russe.
