ResumoThe visual representation of madness in women has taken a number of different forms. There are the lovesick Ophelias, the moping, melancholic girls, the comic nymphomaniacs, and the treacherous, vengeful Medeas. Of the many characterizations, one of the most impressive and enduring is that of the unruly, obstreperous, “bodice-ripping” woman.
