Water Quality and Pollution Assessment

Resumo

Water quality can be defined by its physical, chemical and biological weapons.Bearing in mind these characteristics this study aimed to examine the risk of salinity, sodicity and sanitary quality of water for irrigation in 8 different points of the watershed of the Baixo Acaraú. The collections were made in March (rainy season), June (intermediate period) and September (dry season) of 2007. The physico-chemical analysis carried out were: electrical conductivity, sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), turbidity, iron, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, nitrite, sodium, calcium, magnesium and microbiological were thermotolerant coliforms and total coliforms. It is concluded that the use of water in the watershed of the Baixo Acaraú for both irrigation and dry in the rainy season is not restricted with respect to salinity and sodicity, and that, among the parameters evaluated, the nitrite and iron are above values allowed by law, deserve better attention to them.
