ResumoThe article discusses the ‘privilege of invisibility’ present in some queer hermeneutics. By emphasizing only the marginalized sexuality they fail to assess the complexity of the relations of domination in biblical texts. We can evaluate the limits of such identity approaches in the study of Isaiah 56,1-8. Rather than quickly celebrate the inclusion of eunuchs, the article interprets the pericope in its rhetoric prescription and thus captures the response of ‘eunuchs’ and ‘sons of the foreigner’ to the ethos of subordination and normatization inscribed in the text. In this context, ‘the house of prayer for all peoples’ provides a democratic space for struggles that doesn’t refuge a single fixed identity in search of inclusion. Unlike, in a radical rhetoric of transformation, this utopian space enables the crossing of sexual and ethnic/racial borderlands.
