Resumo

This paper investigates the conceptions that students of the 8th grade of elementary school of Formosa-GO have about the Cerrado biome. We performed an exploratory research through the application of a semi-structured questionnaire to 156 students. From the quantitative analysis of the responses realized that students have little understanding of the Cerrado, soil characteristics, landscape and flora, often reduced only traditionally disseminated information in textbooks. Some implications for the teaching process that may be reviewed by teachers to resort to other activities such as, the need to address the theme Cerrado in primary education in a more careful and contextualized to the reality of the students, as well as using different techniques and different teaching resources to ease the effective learning of characteristics of biome.
